Psychological Assessments

We offer three types of psychological assessment, which evaluate cognitive, neurological, and psychosocial functioning to understand the meaning behind a variety of challenges you or your student may face. These involve a series of evidence-based interview and examination measures administered by highly trained clinicians, aimed to highlight areas of excellence and difficulty and determine the best possible approach to improving the wellbeing and quality of life for you or your loved ones.

Psychoeducational assessments

can examine a range of functional areas vital to the success of your student, including assessments for intellectual (verbal and spatial reasoning, attention, memory, and problem-solving), academic (reading, writing, and mathematics), and general psychological (social, emotional, and behavioral) abilities. Your student may benefit from assessment if they are facing frustration or avoidance of school, which may indicate difficulties concentrating or meeting the demands of their schoolwork, making friends, or obeying the social and behavioral expectations of the classroom.

Psychoeducational assessments can highlight:
  • Many different challenges to sensory, motor, and intellectual functioning
  • Academic difficulties (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, Learning Disorders, or cognitive impairment)
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Social, emotional, and behavioral functioning and disorders (depression, anxiety, and behavioral disorders)

Neuropsychological assessments

examine a similar range of mental and neurological functions, aiming to identify the source of difficulties from a physiological standpoint. Rather than with a focus on education, they are fitting to people of all ages and for a variety of life tasks. These can pinpoint the source of challenges with learning, attention, and memory, as well as with motor coordination, verbal comprehension, and planning/decision making. They can also help to explain sudden or unexpected swings in mood or emotion, loss of ability, and other brain-centered sources of difficulty in your life.

Personality assessments

are a tool to examine your personality for traits and styles that may stand in the way of secure and healthy relationships with yourself or others. These are typically a combination of tests and interviews aimed to give a comprehensive look at who you are, including your background, thoughts, feelings, and motivations. They can serve as a great tool in the therapeutic process by helping you and your psychologist understand where to start.

The assessment process involves:
  • A 50-minute intake appointment with a psychologist, where the student (and parents for children under 18) discuss the concerns and develop a plan
  • 1-2 assessment sessions, each lasting roughly 2-3 hours, in which an interview and test battery are conducted
  • A feedback session, where the student and parents receive a detailed write-up from the psychologist, discuss the results of the tests, and decide on a path forward
